Description
When a Hunza apricot is eaten, nothing is wasted. The fruit is savoured, and the hard stone is carefully cracked open to reveal a small, almond-like kernel inside — the Apricot Nut. For the people of Hunza, these kernels are not a byproduct. They are a treasure.
Hunza Apricot Nuts have been consumed daily in the valley for thousands of years and are widely cited by researchers and wellness practitioners as one of the dietary factors behind the Hunza people’s extraordinary longevity, vitality, and remarkably low rates of certain chronic diseases. Legends surrounding the health of the Hunza community have reached every corner of the world — and the humble apricot kernel sits quietly at the centre of that story.
Our Apricot Nuts are hand-extracted from the stones of Hunza’s 100% wild, organic apricots — the same apricots that have never been touched by pesticides, synthetic fertilisers, or chemical treatments. Each kernel is carefully cleaned and sun-dried to preserve its naturally occurring oils, compounds, and nutritional integrity in their most potent, unaltered state.
The taste is distinctive — bold, slightly bitter with a gentle sweetness, and deeply nutty. This bitterness is not a flaw. It is a sign of the naturally occurring compounds that make apricot kernels so uniquely valuable in the world of traditional wellness and functional nutrition. Consumed mindfully and in the right quantities, Hunza Apricot Nuts are one of the most remarkable whole foods you can add to your daily health routine.
KEY BENEFITS
- Rich in Amygdalin (Vitamin B17) — Apricot kernels are one of the most concentrated natural sources of amygdalin, a naturally occurring compound that has attracted significant attention in the field of traditional and integrative wellness. Long used in Hunza and across Central Asian herbal medicine traditions as part of a broad approach to maintaining good health.
- Excellent Source of Healthy Fats — High in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids — the same heart-healthy fats found in almonds and olive oil — supporting cardiovascular health, brain function, and skin nourishment.
- Natural Source of Vitamin E — A powerful fat-soluble antioxidant that protects cells from oxidative damage, supports skin health, and plays a key role in immune function and hormonal balance.
- Rich in Magnesium & Phosphorus — Essential minerals for strong, healthy bones and teeth, proper muscle function, and the efficient production of energy at the cellular level.
- Supports Immune Function — The combination of natural compounds, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids in apricot kernels supports a well-functioning, resilient immune system.
- Anti-Inflammatory Properties — The natural oils and phytonutrients present in the kernels help moderate the body’s inflammatory response, supporting joint comfort and overall physical wellbeing.
- Skin & Hair Nourishment — The oil naturally present within each kernel is deeply nourishing for both skin and hair. Consumed internally, it promotes moisture retention and a healthy, natural glow.
- Digestive Support — Contains natural enzymes and dietary fibre that support gentle, healthy digestion and gut motility.
- 100% Wild & Chemical-Free — Sourced from Hunza’s entirely organic, wild apricot trees. No pesticides, no processing chemicals, no additives of any kind.
HOW TO USE
⚠️ Important — Please Read Before Use: Apricot kernels contain naturally occurring amygdalin. It is essential to consume them in moderation and strictly within the recommended daily quantity. Do not exceed the stated daily limit. Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, or for children, without prior medical advice. If you are on any medication or have a health condition, please consult your doctor before use.
Daily Wellness Dose: Consume 3–5 kernels per day for adults — this is the traditional Hunza daily intake and the quantity recommended for safe, regular use. Eat slowly and chew thoroughly. Do not crush, blend, or boil large quantities, as this can affect the release of natural compounds.
With Honey as a Morning Tonic: Lightly crush 3–4 kernels and stir into a teaspoon of raw Hunza honey. Take first thing in the morning as a traditional wellness tonic. The honey balances the natural bitterness of the kernel beautifully and makes for a deeply nourishing start to the day.
With Dried Apricots as a Complete Snack: Eat 3–4 kernels alongside a small handful of Hunza Dried Apricots — this is the most traditional way they are consumed in Hunza. The sweetness of the fruit naturally complements the bitter depth of the kernel, and together they deliver the full nutritional benefit of the whole apricot.
Infused in Warm Water: Place 3–4 kernels in a glass of warm water and allow to soak for 5–10 minutes. Drink the water and eat the softened kernels. This is a gentle, traditional method used as a morning digestive and immunity tonic.
Ground into Nut Butter (Occasional Use): A small number of kernels can be ground with almonds or other nuts to make a bitter-edged nut butter. Use sparingly as a spread or flavouring. Do not use as a primary nut butter or as a base ingredient in large quantities.
As a Natural Skin Oil (External Use): Place whole kernels in a clean cloth and press firmly to extract a few drops of natural apricot kernel oil. Apply directly to dry skin, cuticles, or hair ends as a deeply nourishing natural moisturiser. Alternatively, use Hunza cold-pressed apricot kernel oil for a more convenient topical application.
Recommended Daily Intake: Maximum 3–5 kernels per day for adults. Start with 1–2 kernels per day if new to apricot kernels and build up gradually.
Storage: Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Best consumed within 6–9 months of purchase for optimal freshness and potency.
